Theory of Action

SF-CESS’ mission and vision are alive. They help us to surface our core values and assist us to communicate our priorities and the impact of our work. Using our mission and vision, SF-CESS will use the following Theory of Action to clarify our intended work and the desired results against which we will be able to measure our success:

If SF-CESS, guided by CES' Ten Common Principles, assists our schools and their communities to develop and sustain as small, equitable and high performing schools by providing coaching, technical assistance and professional development to a network of school communities that share core values:

Then our schools will:

  • Function as sustainable learning communities dedicated to lifelong learning.
  • Prioritize personalization so that every child is known well, and
  • Base their practices in data-driven inquiry, explicitly focused on equity and achievement,

So that all students served by our schools will have access to a high quality education and those students most marginalized and underserved will have equitable access and support for accelerated achievement,

As will be measured by a variety and range of student achievement and experience data including but not limited to standardized and alternative assessments (i.e. CAHSEE, API, CST, exhibitions & portfolios, graduation, and college preparedness & acceptance, as well as attendance, discipline, and retention rates.)
